VFTQ 177 – Steam is coming to Mac!
Podcast: Play in new window | Download (22.7MB)
Hello, and welcome to this fine episode of View From The Quad, available at www.viewfromthequad.com!
Today on the show I have a lot of stuff for you, since I felt guilty over not posting an episode for the last two weeks. So you win!
News topics today: Valve are bringing their gaming distribution network, Steam, and their games including Half Life, Team Fortress 2 and Portal to the Mac. Take THAT, people who claim Macs aren’t for gaming! A blogger (linked below) has released instructions on how to make problematic food from Firefly, a study has shown strong links between religiosity and racism (whudathunkit?), an LA graffiti artist makes a booboo, and much more. I also play the song The Best it’s Gonna Get by Celldweller

VFTQ 174 – Glider
Podcast: Play in new window | Download (7.1MB)
So, this week I thought that I would throw in a short story I wrote a while back, it’s called Glider, and it’s a sort of World War 2 story. Interesting fact: EVERYTHING that happens in this story (except the existance of the main character) actually happened. Seriously. Look it up!

“Hey Cian! What’s Going On?”
So, where is your episodes of VFTQ for these past two weeks? Truth be told, pretty much nowhere. Why? Sixth year. I blame sixth year. I have some prerecorded episodes in the can, and I might throw one of them into the feed tomorrow. Over the midterm break I will have the chance to do a lot more recording, so expect some stuff then.
However, let it be known that over the next few months, VFTQ will be sporadic at best, due to the very scary loomination of the Leaving Cert.

Hello, and welcome to this fine episode of View From The Quad, available at www.viewfromthequad.com!
Heya, and welcome to this episode of View From the Quad! For some reason, I was granted a media pass to this year’s BT Young Scientist awards, and so I attended, microphone in hand, to interview some of the brightest sparks that I could find in Ireland. Get ready to feel inadequacy brought on by three minute chats with people younger then you! (Keep an ear out for a live performance of a musical saw!)
In the order of appearance:
Tommy Collison with his project entitled “Examining the attitude of secondary school students towards blogs”. You can find Tommy at his blog on www.TrustTommy.com, and find his full report online at http://tinyurl.com/ydp5xnb
Ben McRedmond and Patrick O’Doherty with their project entitled “Analysing social networking data to identify trends on the web.” It can be found online at www.WePredictIt.com
Artyom and Kyrill Zorin with their project “Zorin OS”, a version of Linux that can be downloaded for free at http://Zorin-OS.webs.com
Rory Hughes with his project entitled “Wireless Electricity Controller”.
Ben Chapman with his project “Exploitation of routers using alternate DNS Servers” which can be found online at http://www.exploitDNS.ie
Rónán O Curráin with his project called “An Bhfuil Deochanna boga gan siúcra níos fearr d’fhiacla ná deochanna boga le siúcra”, or “Are fizzy drinks without sugar better for teeth then fizzy drinks without”, and I start this interview trying to speak Irish with him, but give up quite soon.
Mairín Ryan with her project on “The Physics of the musical Saw”

VFTQ 173 coming right up!
I spent the day today at the BT Young Scientist Awards, chatting to some of the geniuses who have entered their projects there. VFTQ 173 will consist most of these interviews, along with whatever else I dredge up. It might be late tomorrow night though.
VFTQ episode 172 – Sonic Boom’s episode
Podcast: Play in new window | Download (28.0MB)
Hello, and welcome to this fine episode of View From The Quad, available at www.viewfromthequad.com!
This week’s episode of View From The Quad is brought to you by the Sonic Boom trust fund. More about that important cause in the episode.
Hi there, loyal listener or fresh newbie to the VFTQ universe! Today on the show, I talk about Tee Morris, who has hit a very dark part of his life, and how podcasters, podcast listeners and his friends are gathering together to try to make this point in time go as smoothly as it can go for both him and his daughter.
On the topics side of things, I talk about my time in the School that wasn’t, The Institute, a failed snowball fight attempt and the first season of House. I also speak about the latest episode of Dollhouse, but at the very end of the show, so don’t you worry about spoilers.
We also discuss the difference in how people in Fan culture speak and act (as opposed to “Mundains”), how new airport scanners may break child porn laws, how Atheist Ireland is tempting a new anti-blasphemy law by publishing 25 blasphemous quotations and a God Mode unearthed in Windows 7, and how it has begun a holy war.
Instead of donating to me this week, I’m asking you to donate to Sonic Boom’s trust fund, set up after her mother, and the wife of one podcasting legend Tee Morris, died suddenly. Give all that you can spare and read more about the tragedy and how the money will be spent at http://bit.ly/6U9kvC. Thanks. Tee, although he has gone dark online after the death, really appriciates your help.

Tee Morris is in a bad spot.
“Tee and Sonic Boom (his young daughter) are not only facing the loss of Natalie, (his wife) but also significant and immediate costs involved with her death and keeping their family together.
